Mummy Muesli

Mummy Muesli

I love muesli. I always have. But I don’t really love a lot of the dried fruit you find in store bought muesli such as sultanas and raisins. So I’ve spent a lot of years picking things out of my muesli every morning. Until I started making my own that is. I discovered home made muesli about seven years ago and have rarely bought one since. It’s so easy to make and you get to control what goes in. I’ve tried many variations and additions in the mix over the years and this blend seems to be the favourite. My girls call it mummy muesli and request it often which I love!

Feel free to adjust the ingredients to what you like as well. That’s the beauty of a homemade muesli – you can adjust it to suit your palate! So use the recipe as a guide for ratios of ingredients and see where you end up!

I like it best served with just natural yoghurt and a squeeze of honey. Sometimes I’ll add a bit of fresh fruit, but generally keep it simple. The rest of the family will add milk and freshor stewed fruit depending on what we have on hand. However you have it, it makes for a delicious

Mummy Muesli

Ingredients

6 cups rolled oats
3 cups all bran sticks
2 cups puffed rice
3/4 cup sunflower seeds
3/4 cup pepitas
200g diced dried apricots (1 packet)
½ cup goji berries
Optional, to taste – dates, cranberries, bran, psyllium husk, nuts

Instructions

1
Combine all ingredients into a large container and mix well. I have used everything from a large mixing bowl, to a giant Tupperware container or a clean garbage bag to do the mixing in. Being able to shake the ingredients together generally gives a better mix.
2
Store in an airtight container in the cupboard for up to a month.
